Thank you for the photo link - they remind me of when I flew on our A300 in the 80's - the cabin is similar (just shorter) - same brown doors! IF were a little more modern than us at the time as they had inflight video - we didn't introduce this until 1991 and only in response to Compass Airlines which was the first airline to enter the domestic market after de-regulation. Before then we only had two airlines flying the same routes with similar aircraft at the same times at the same fares! Did IF have a Business (or Club) Class lounge at SXF? Thanks again for the link!

Hi Flieger Bernd!

My Trabi is my pride and joy and I must admit sometimes I drive it into our village, park it whilst I have coffee and just watch people as they come to look at it! - very self-indulgent of me! When it arrived it was in one of our big newspapers and a six page article was published in a National motoring magazine - copies were placed all over the air-crew lounge (not by me!) - I became known as "The Commie Purser Who Drives A Plastic Car!" - in a nice way! Which aircraft were you on at IF?

Congratulations to the Trabant
Every day I drived with Trabant to the airport Schönefeld.

I worked in the cockpit at Interflug as a navigator,
1970-73 Ilyushin-18 and thereafter until 1991 Tupoljev-134.
Then came the end of Interflug and I packed my suitcase.

The TU-134 is one of my favorite aircraft even though I have only flown on it once. This was with Hang Khong Viet Nam from Ho Chi Minh to BKK but the aircraft was ex-IF! I was very excited! One day I hope to step onboard an IL-18 - there are still two in service with Air Koryo in North Korea - I host a tour group every year into North Korea to raise money for humanitarian aid and always hope to fly on one!

I'm trying a new oil in my Trabi today - time for a quick ride!

I'm trying a new oil in my Trabi today - time for a quick ride!

After refueling, always good shaking!
A note: Wartburg and Trabant cars were also exported to foreign countries. In the UK there was an engine oil metering pump, which always provides the optimal mixture. This new oil-automatic, however, was built by the importer in the United Kingdom. Any time there in the IFA forum to ask:

The TU-134A in Vietnam were not Interflug! But, it's military airlifter aircraft squadrons were TG-44. So the government squadron. However, this aircraft had a Interflug-varnish. In Hang Kong Airlines, the painting was similar, but with blue stripes on the window.

The IL-18 still flies here and there.
If you see one, listen to the song of her engines.. It is not often that you will hear a Queen sing.
The sound is a dream 8-)

As far as the sound is concerned, an Antonov An-12 would be the perfect stand-in. Since it uses the same engine type and airscrew type, its sound is virtually the same.
...but as Flieger Bernd said, Il-18 rules.

Twice a week, I get An-12 overflying my house or landing at the airport I am based on. Its "soundscape" magically releases hidden memories of past INTERFLUG days that would remain locked otherwise. It is simply amazing how sounds or (kerosene) smells can trigger lost memories to come back at once.
